Essential Grooming Tips For Men, Part II

Grooming is a broad topic. When many men hear the word ‘grooming’ they likely think about plucking their eyebrows or breaking out the razor and shaving cream. In our last blog, we learned that grooming is far more than that. We covered some helpful tips and information that is sure to boost your grooming routine and make you look and feel cleaner. In this blog, we are going to provide you with more tips to add to your repertoire. Add these, and the essential grooming tips for men from our last post to look and feel better than ever before!

More grooming tips to add to your routine

If you caught our last blog, you now know how important grooming is. From taking care of your beard, trimming nose and ear hairs, and ensuring your hands and feet are clean, the term well-groomed has a whole new meaning. Check out these additional grooming tips to consider applying to your routine.

8. Wash your face (and do it the right way)

Throughout the day, our faces become oily, dirty, and often full of bacteria. Most men are not taking care of their faces as well as they should be. Even if you are someone who washes your face, doing it too much or not often enough, using the wrong face wash, or washing your face at the wrong time could lead to oily skin, acne, dry skin, and bothersome ingrown hairs. Luckily, face washing is not really a complex part of grooming routines. As long as you know what you are doing, it is fairly easy. Whether you have oily or dry skin, you’ll want to wash your face with warm — not hot — water and invest in a face wash that is formulated specifically for your skin type. If you want to go the extra mile, look for an organic facial cleanser. This will ensure the product is safe and free of harsh and irritating chemicals. After cleansing, be sure to rinse your face with cold water. This helps close down pores that have since opened up to get a deep cleaning. Applying some moisturizer afterwards is not a terrible idea as it can help add extra protection against the elements.

9. Brush and floss your pearly whites

Many people don’t normally associate teeth cleaning with grooming, however, it is an essential part to add your grooming arsenal. We communicate with others face-to-face on almost a daily basis. So you can imagine how much of a role taking care of your teeth plays. Don’t let the statistic we shared above give you an excuse to allow your mouth to smell like a dumpster. Fresh breath and clean teeth are an essential part of man’s appearance, so make sure to brush your teeth multiple times throughout the day. That’s right, the daily one-time job won’t? cut it. Try getting into the habit of brushing your teeth three times a day: in the morning, after lunch, and before going to bed. This will not only help freshen up your breath, it will help remove food and stains on the teeth. Remember to floss to get hard to reach places, and finish by swishing some mouth was around. A clean and fresh mouth can give a man enough confidence to dive in for that kiss on the first date.

9. Treat the feet

Gents, just because you don’t see them does not mean you can avoid them. Be honest with yourself, your feet are gross. They get sweaty, dirty, and often are foul smelling. In order to keep your feet in pristine condition, it is important to clean them thoroughly and often. Start by rinsing them entirely and cleansing with a soap or scrub. Don’t forget to clean between the toes, either, as they are prone to bacteria formation that could lead to foot issues. When your toenails are long, be sure to trim them. Lastly, don’t be afraid to visit a foot spa from time to time. Your lady will love you forever if you suggest going there together. At these spas you can get foot scrubs that are effective at exfoliating dead skin that builds up on your feet over time.

10. Use cologne, but don’t overdo it

Smelling great is one thing, but when you smell like the fragrance section at Macy’s you might have overdone it. If you are going to apply cologne, apply just enough that will closely match your body's natural scent. Try to buy premium brands of cologne as knock-off brands or brands you can find at a grocery store generally will not smell pleasant. And lastly, we’ll leave you with this: never use cologne to cover up body odor. If you have BO, take a shower!

11. Get your haircut

Do you remember when your mother would harp on you to cut your hair? Well, she might have been right. While there is nothing wrong with long hair, too many guys wait too long before getting a haircut. We’re also not suggesting that you get the same haircut every time your hair reaches an “unbearable” length. Instead, maintain your hair as it grows. This means going into a barber or salon to get a trim and clean up every two to four weeks. It is important to be as specific as possible with your stylist to get the outcome you are expecting. Describe the style you want and pull up a picture online for confirmation.

12. Start exercising

Some guys are gym rats, couch potatoes, and everything in between. But the facts are that exercise improves your health and makes you look your best. No matter where you are in your fitness quest, it is never too late to take some time to work out. When you regularly exercise you will be in a better mood, have more energy, be in better shape, and you will look better. Not to mention, your skin will also look better! If you’re new to working out start by doing a light jog for 10 to 15 minutes. You can find plenty of workouts to do in the comfort of your own home or, if you are really committed, you can get a gym membership.

13. Quit unhealthy habits

Unhealthy habits, such as smoking and drinking, come with negative health effects that can really put a damper on your appearance. Smoking, for example, reduces the blood flow to the skin, reducing the amount of nutrients it receives. This can cause skin to wrinkle, adding some age to one’s appearance. Alcohol isn’t great for our skin either as it contains a lot of sugar, which is bad for our skin. We’re not saying you can’t take a drag or drink a foamer from time-to-time. Just don’t overdo it or your appearance could face the consequences.

14. Trim the brows

If your eyebrows make you look like you are about to commentate an episode of 60 Minutes, it is time to pull out the trimmer. Nobody likes a man with wild brows (with an exception to Andy Rooney) so if they start growing out of control it is time to do some grooming. Plucking is usually effective, but it takes time and can hurt like no other. If your eyebrows are bushy, try trimming them down a bit. It may be best to have them professionally cleaned and groomed for a cleaner look.
